OUR PROGRAMS INCLUDE:
Hiring Right – The First Time
Get behind the smile, the handshake and the power suit to the real person you are interviewing. In a labour market where so many people are looking for work, it is important to find a fit for an open position quickly and efficiently. Behavioural questions will give you an in-depth profile of your candidates, and skilled reference checks will round out the picture
Hit The Ground Running – The First 30 Days
Get employees off to a great start! Welcome them, engage them and motivate them to perform at a higher level. A good start will increase employee loyalty. This workshop offers suggestions for new employee orientation, coaching and recognition for the first 30 days. You will also learn how to complete a 30-day evaluation to continue getting great results.
Why Won’t They Do What I Want Them To Do?
Performance reviews are an essential component of employee development. Someone once said, “If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always got.” Setting goals and objectives with employees will give them a unified focus and will make clear the expected performance. Performance management is a three-stage process, not a once-a-year confrontation.
Employee Handbooks and Policy Manuals – Dust Collectors or Tools of the Trade?
If your company is successful, it is probably busy. Writing or updating your policies is probably the last thing on your agenda. Maybe you question the value of having written policies, since they are open to interpretation. Well written policies are an effective communication device and will protect you from legal liability.
Employee handbooks communicate your policies and procedures to employees in a reader-friendly way. Your responsibility as an employer is to ensure that policies and procedures have been clearly communicated and have been understood. This session will help you to develop a Policy Manual and an Employee Handbook for your organization.

Carrot or Stick?
Sometimes managers need to coach employees to better performance. Sometimes employees need stronger direction, and sometimes it’s time for discipline. A coach is like a cheerleader, standing on the sidelines and encouraging people to succeed. Good coaches help people understand the game plan, and provide the tools and resources for success. Good coaches know when it’s time to move to discipline to deal with bad attitudes, poor performance and to deal with disputes.
Jerks at Work – Dealing with Difficult People
Dealing with difficult people is a serious issue for all of us at one time or another. Difficult people can be peers, subordinates, bosses or even loved ones. In fact, sometimes WE can be the difficult person to someone else.
You can learn to recognize difficult behaviour and how to deal with it, even if it's your own. So, let's begin to explore how to deal with difficult people and have fun, too!
Who Goes First? – Fostering Respect in the Workplace
The purpose of this workshop is to raise awareness of minimum standards for workplace respect and courteous interactions. The goal of the workshop is to provide workers with specific knowledge and competencies they can use to enhance their interactions with each other, to heighten morale and to reinforce a culture of collegiality and respect.
This includes: related policies and regulations, reporting procedures, communication skills and an understanding of diversity and different expectations.
Whose Fault is it? – Investigating Employee complaints at work
When you are faced with an employee complaint, conducting an effective investigation is crucial to successfully resolving the dispute and avoiding unnecessary litigation. Whether the complaint involves harassment, discrimination, theft, changes in behaviour, or any other of a myriad of issues, the best practices for handling the situation are very similar.
HR for Non-HR Managers
In today’s fast-moving world, many managers and supervisors are expected to deal with some human resource issues. They may be asked to take part in developing job descriptions, sit in on interviews, or take responsibility for discipline. This two-day workshop will introduce those managers to human resource concepts. We will walk you through the hiring process, from performing a skills inventory to conducting the interview; discuss orientation; and cover some issues that arise after the hiring (such as diversity issues, compensation, and discipline).
Finally, I’m the Boss – Supervisory skills for new supervisors
This workshop is for those people who are new supervisors or who are interested in a supervisory position, as well as those who are lead hands or part-time supervisors without a great deal of authority.
This workshop is designed to help you overcome many of the supervisory problems you will encounter in your first few weeks as a boss. Dealing with the many problems a new supervisor encounters isn’t easy but it doesn’t have to lead to discouragement.
Discipline and Discharge
Poor performance, inability to handle assigned tasks or workload, a bad attitude, failure to show up for work regularly and other employee problems can create dissatisfaction with an employee.
What measures can an employer undertake to minimize the risk of costly litigation arising from employee discipline or discharge?
Explore the workplace policies that an employer should have in place, the steps an employer should go through to investigate misconduct, how a record should be created and the appropriate stages of discipline. Also examine the termination process, wrongful discharge claims and recent developments in post-employment litigation.
Managing Across Generations – Getting the Best from Every Age!
Participants will gain an understanding of theory and skills needed to examine and implement effective management techniques in a multi-generational workplace. They will learn about current research in this area; why generations have such an effect on workplace attitudes and expectations; the importance of retention and motivation; overcoming different working styles; communication as it applies to various age groups; and change and leadership as an overarching theme. Throughout the course, participants will learn though active discussion, assess their own workplaces, practice skills through short exercises and discover relevant articles.
Presentation Skills – The WOW Factor!
A great presenter has two unique qualities, appropriate skills and personal confidence. This confidence comes from knowing what you want to say, and being comfortable with your communication skills. In this workshop, you will master the skills that will make you a better speaker and presenter.
It’s like preparing every detail of a party. You are prepared, and it’s going to be a smashing success.
Facilitation Skills: It’s more than “telling”
It is impossible to be part of an organization today and not attend meetings. Staff meetings, project meetings, planning and coordinating meetings—they all take time.
There has been a growing realization that we have to pay attention to the “process” elements of meetings, if we want them to be effective. With its focus on asking rather than telling, and listening to build consensus, facilitation is the new leadership ideal, the core competency everybody needs. Managers and supervisors are often asked to “facilitate” rather than “instruct” or “manage” their meetings and training sessions.
How can you facilitate, rather than control, group decision-making and team interaction? With no formal training, people may find it difficult to make the transition from “instructors” to “facilitators”.
This workshop has been created to make core facilitation skills better understood and readily available for your organization. It represents materials and ideas that have been tested and refined over twenty years of active facilitation in all types of settings.
Training for Trainers: Success in the classroom
Trainers are usually people from inside an organization who have been asked to teach others. One thing is clear: more and more people are becoming trainers, either by choice or because their jobs demand it. Often they are thrust into a difficult situation without much understanding of what training is or how to do it well.
This course is designed to provide employees with skills, information, and practical experience to become effective workplace trainers.
